Causes of engine cylinder liner damage and maintenance methods

Analysis of the causes of cylinder liner wear. Cylinder liners operate in harsh environments, leading to numerous causes of wear. Normal wear is usually permitted due to design, however, improper use and maintenance can cause abnormal wear.

What are the functions of a cylinder liner? What are the two types of cylinder liners?

The function of the cylinder liner: 1. Together with the cylinder head and piston, it constitutes the working space of the cylinder; 2. The cylinder liner of a cylindrical piston diesel engine bears the lateral thrust of the piston and serves as the guide for the reciprocating motion of the piston;

Analysis of the causes of cylinder liner wear and introduction to cylinder liner maintenance knowledge

When starting a cold engine, the low temperature causes the engine oil to have high viscosity and poor fluidity, resulting in insufficient oil supply from the engine oil pump. At the same time, the engine oil on the original cylinder walls flows down the cylinder walls after the engine stops, so it cannot get the good lubrication it normally receives during operation. As a result, cylinder wall wear significantly increases during startup.

What material is the cylinder liner made of?

In most engines, the cylinder block and cylinder liner are cast as one piece. Some use aluminum alloy for the cylinder block and alloy cast iron for the cylinder liner. Alloy cast iron cylinder liners can be cast into the cylinder block using a low-pressure casting method, or they can be combined with the cylinder block and cylinder liner using an interference fit. Using aluminum alloy for the cylinder block reduces engine weight and improves the cylinder block's heat dissipation performance.
